Hybrid Chestnut Tree (1yr seedling)
All of our trees are grown in the ground, NOT POTTED. Potted trees stink. It's not possible to have a natural root system inside of a pot, trees normally either send out spreading roots or deep tap roots, and neither of those are possible in pots. Small yearling trees with good root systems will absolutely take off compared to older trees in pots, I've watched it happen. By year two a seedling (grafted or not) will catch up to a 5 year old potted tree. On top of that the smaller trees are cheaper, its a win, win.
These seedling Chestnuts were grown from highly disease resistant, hardy to at least -25f, collected from 30 year old healthy trees. Complex hybrids of c. dentata, c. mollisima, and c. crenata. Large, tasty nuts.
Check out the root pictures! Your roots should be nearly as big as the top! When the trees are dormant in the winter they are ok being out of soil for a few days to ship as long as they don't dry out, and we make sure they won't during shipping. Just plant them asap when they arrive. They will wake up in the spring ready to grow!
